Game drives

Game drives along the plains is usually the best method for viewing wildlife in the bush. Most of the up-close experiences with wild game are likely to come about in this way, since the animals are quite habituated to the presence of vehicles and do not feel threatened.
The Serengeti region is famous for offering wildlife viewing throughout the year, with incredible predator sightings, between July and October, when the lion population and cheetahs are amongst the highest in Africa.
While the wildebeest and zebra migration often passes through, between April-May and between Nov-Dec, though it is not necessarily a hugely impressive spectacle because the herds tend to disperse amongst the acacia woodlands in this area.

Hot Air Balloon safari

Serengeti National Park, in Northern Tanzania is the original home of hot air balloon safari and this remains a famous activity, as you will see by the amount of balloons that rise from the plains at dawn each day. The experience inevitably involves an early morning wake-up call of either a cup of tea and a long cold drive to the location, ready for take-off at sunrise, the flight itself usually lasts for 30 to 60 minutes, ending up with a traditional champagne breakfast out in the bush. The balloon operations may be commercial, as the costs are high and baskets carry about 16 or 24 guests, but the experience is incredible, the scenery is breathtaking and photo opportunities are magnificent.
